A Green New Year

We hope everyone has been enjoying the holidays.  With New Year’s Eve approaching, we thought we would take a minute to give you some quick green tips for celebrating as well as some ideas for potential new years resolutions.  If you’re hosting a New Year’s Eve party, try to make it a green one.  If you decide to send out invitations, try to do it electronically.  As far as decorations go, try to use re-usable decorations or at least ones that can be recycled.  In terms of food, try to buy local and organic food if possible.  Reusable dinnerware is also the best choice but if you don’t have enough to accommodate everyone, at least try to recycle any plastic plates, cups etc.  If you are going out to a celebration somewhere, try to carpool if possible.  You don’t have to go crazy, but just keep some of these things in mind.

Now as far as resolutions go, this is the perfect opportunity to make a commitment to being a little more ‘green.’  You don’t have to try and save the world by yourself but little steps go a long way.  Here are a few ideas for green New Year’s Resolutions.  If you don’t already recycle at home, this is the perfect opportunity to start doing so.  If you’re feeling a little more ambitious, start a composting bin at your house.  Buy some reusable shopping bags and try as best as you can to not use plastic or paper bags from the stores anymore.  Eliminate bottled water from your life, by purchasing a BPA-free reusable water bottle and try to never buy bottled water again.  Change the light bulbs in your house to more efficient ones and try to always replace with efficient lights going forward.  Again, these are only a few suggestions.  There are plenty more ideas out there that you can look up online if you so desire.  Just remember, every little bit counts.  Be safe and Happy New Year!
