Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day to all!

As I sat here contemplating what to write about for this blog entry, I decided to stray from the short and slightly humorous format that you may have seen in recent posts.  Instead I would like to take the time to briefly reflect on the significance of Earth Day and how it particularly resonates with our company.

Did you know that this year marks the 43rd celebration of this special holiday and that the first Earth Day was initially focused on the United States?  Well it has certainly come a long way, as today there are over one billion people in 192 countries participating in Earth Day events.  While this is a significant achievement, especially in the face of climate change, we’re still only talking about one day out of the whole year.  So how much progress can really be made from only one day out of the year?

While there is clearly no concrete or numerical answer to this question, we like to think the best answer would be something along the lines of, “a lot more progress than zero days out of the year can accomplish.”  Well, this is where we at The Junk Recycler can particularly relate to Earth Day.  Upon reading our mission statement of, ‘Saving The Planet One Load At A Time’ you might ask yourself, “do these guys really think they’re saving the planet one load at a time?”  I think you see what I’m getting at here.  The point is (at least for our company) it’s about doing the right thing.  To be quite honest, in our line of work doing the right thing and responsibly disposing of, recycling and donating the items we haul away doesn’t make our lives any easier, but we’re okay with that.  Sure it would be easier to just take all of our customers’ items to the dump and empty our entire truck like some companies may do, but we didn’t start The Junk Recycler because we thought it would be easy work.  The Junk Recycler was founded because we care about our planet and the people that inhabit it or will inhabit it in the future, and we wanted to offer the communities we serve a sustainable choice for their junk removal needs.  Relating back to my point about Earth Day, for us it’s about doing the right thing and showing our customers how much more good they can accomplish just by choosing us to haul away that one load as opposed to another company, and that is how we are Saving The Planet One Load At A Time.  So on behalf of all of us here at The Junk Recycler, thank you for making a difference by choosing us and enjoy the rest of your Earth Day (preferably outside).

I would like to leave you with a quote, which we particularly like, by Sydney Smith.

“It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little.  Do what you can.”

Until Next Time,
